I had the Hill topper kit for about a month, it does what it is suppose to do, 15mph unassisted and about 17 mph assisted. I wanted a little more power for a little more speed, like into the 20's. I enlisted various forum for help, I was told by a few that reply, to open up the controller to see what kind of capacitor was in it. It had capacitors rated up to 50v, so using 36v should be ok, just that the warentee is now void. Since I was sure if 36v would really work, I didn't to get a 36v lithium battery yet, and i have the 24v SLA batteries. I order an idenical battery from NYCE for $29. and I ordered an diy battery kit from e bikekit(36v charger with anderson power pole plugs, an battery bag and some hookup wires for the battery) for $84. Duct taped the new battery next to the 2, I already have and hookup the 3 batteries with with short extensions that came with the kit. Snip off the chrome plug from the 24v charger and mated it to the 36v charger, and charge for about 4 hours, voltmeter said 37v. install on bike, and took it out for a short testrun, to see if any things shorted out or sparks and fire. It ran great, felt battery and front hub, they were not warm at all. It was much more quicker, got up to 22mph very quick. Later today, I will take out for an extended ride, to see if there is an endurance problem. Now, this something I did on my own, and I know waranteed is gone, that;s ok, Clean Republic is not responsible for my actions. around here in Chicago, it is basically flat. If everything goes well, I will order an 36v 15a lithium battery from Ping, should be a simple mod.
