THROTTLE BUTTON PROBLEM SOLVED

Hi, everyone:

Happy Holidays! One of the main problems I've had with the Hilltopper kit is the throttle button. It's far too small and recessed and is very hard to press and hold down especially for extended periods of times.

I've seen suggested solutions of putting an epoxy on the button to raise the surface, but that really isn't a good solution. I've found a really inexpensive solution using a nylon bumper pad available at any home improvement store or even at your local department stores in your hardware section.

The particular one I use is called : SOFTTOUCH by Waxman, 1/2 inch Bumpers. The are about $3 for a pack of 12 and are clear with an adhesive backing. I got them at Lowes. Item#0055659. Barcode: 8 41515 00668 8. For those of you in other countries the website for this particular item is:

Just center one of the bumpers on the throttle button and press it on. It makes for a very comfortable solution.

Hopefully the adhesive backing will adhere well over time, but I have found that frequent cold weather riding (with clumsy winter gloves) may knock the pads loose since the original type/small button material is very slick.
Still, this won't solve the inevitable switch wear problem (I have worn out several). My solution is to splice in an auto-grade toggle switch (rigged to a plastic reflector-holder ring). When on a deserted rural road with no traffic, I just flip the right grip-side mounted switch, and thus save wear & tear on the left grip-side mounted button. You only need to remember to flip off the switch and use the button only when approaching an intersection or in traffic, though the HT motor is really not strong enough to overpower the brakes (found THAT out when one of the HT button switches failed in the "ON" position).
