This was one of the first configurations I tried. I removed the magnets from their backing plates and broke them in half to get simpler flux fields. Without doing this the magnetic fields are right next to each other on the flat plane and I didn't have any ideas then about how to configure them beside coils. I was able to get 13 volts and was able to rectify the AC using some LEDs in a simple bridge arrangement. I had to run the drill press up to 3,000 rpms to get that though.
The RPM/power output on this test wasn't the most amazing thing, but it was pretty good for the first time I'd tried the configuration. It was also nice to see that I could fit everything back inside the hard drive case. I wanted to try that because the cases themselves are really tough and would make excellent weatherproof enclosures. Though small I suppose this configuration could be arrayed in some clever way, or just used for very small power requirements.
Any ideas on how to 'stack' these mini generators, or something they might be useful for individually?
