Long distance battery

Postby B.A.C. » Thu Nov 03, 2011 9:40 am

I'm looking for a way to support an 80 mile journey, without buying 4+ batteries. Is there anyway to have a battery built to specifications that will work with the hilltopper, and by who?
Also, does anyone know of a portable solar charger that would charge these type of batteries by hilltopper?

Hi B.A.C.

Thanks for the question. Other folks should feel free to chime in as well.

You would need a Lithium battery with at least 30Ah to get near that range, but you may even need more. You can find such types of batteries on many different online sales companies such as eBay. It will cost you a pretty penny though. Something in the $400-500 range just for the battery without any other electronics to hook into a e-bike such as the Hill Topper. You would need to probably build this yourself, as we don't offer a custom building service. You will just need some basic electrical experience to build this type of setup.

We can't cover any type of modifications made to the Hill Topper kit, so this type of change will void out the warranty.

You can find solar chargers through a similar online search that will work with that type of battery. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. What you have said is what I have gathered, and I appreciate the reconfirmation.
My next step in this research is to find a business locally that deals with batteries and solar power. They should be able to answer a lot of the questions I have.
Again, thank you
