Lithium Hill Topper on Trek 7200

Postby Kevin » Wed Apr 21, 2010 4:03 pm

I received my Hill Topper this week. It took me less than 10 minutes to install it, but I waited for over two hours for the battery to be fully charged before going for a test ride. I'm estimating my bike weight to now be about 45lbs. On a level street, I reached 16mph with no pedaling. A pretty steep hill that I usually have to stand and pedal with all I got or often walk up, I was able to make it to the top with my Hill Topper and pedaling while seated. As I neared the top, my speed got as low as 3mph, which I'm not complaining considering I weigh 260lbs. I love it. My only concern is all the weight I'm putting on the motor.

Hi Kevin,

Great description of the Hill Topping experience. Thanks for sharing.

If you can pedal enough with your legs along with the motor to keep it up at around 10mph going up the steep hill, then the internal parts of the motor will be spinning faster, and more efficiently, and the motor will actually be pulling you harder than when it's going very slow near stall speed (like 3mph).

Happy trails,

Mike
