One huge way of improving the current hilltopper is to cut down on the charging time. I'm new to this ebiking, and so far I'm loving it, except for the recharge times which can take in excess of more than 4 hours to fully charge. Back in 2008 I came across an article that Toshiba had created a lithium battery that could be charged to 90% in 10 minutes. Thinking about this, I then googled Toshiba electric bike and found that they collaborated with Cannondale and Schwinn in building full ebikes using this new lithium technology. Maybe Clean Republic could partner up with Toshiba and use this technology on future battery packs. To me Hilltopper has beat the competition with it's efficient and simple design and if CleanRepublic could make this happen they would raise the bar on practicality.
here's some links to what I found on Toshiba's lithium battery
