Adding a rear electric hub

Postby dennis » Sun Feb 06, 2011 4:42 am

I love my kit ! I put it on an aluminum beach cruiser and cant pedal fast enough to keep up with the motor..about 15mph as advertized. I want to replace my rusty single gear rear wheel with a wheel with a gear cluster/dedrailer
set up. As a lifelong motorcyclist /gearhead I couldn't help but consider adding a similar 24volt brushless rear hub that I have seen available through other distributors. Possibly just splicing the motor cable to drive both hubs. I have the Li battery pack. Obviously range would be cut in half..but would it work and would it hurt the controller...would it cause excessive current flow/heat damage to components? Would it do 20+ and has anyone done this...would you recomend a hub? or to keep life simple and leave it alone?
Thanks for your thoughts.

I now have more time with my kit and have read mikes post re battery life and usage. I no longer would want to add another electric hub...the bike works great the way it is and I want to keep it light. I have been clocked at 20mph on flat ground without pedaling and am still deciding how to add more gearing to the beach cruiser so I can participate more in the locomotion. Without a doubt I ride more often and further and smile more while doing it!
